Job Title: Lecturer/Researcher: Academic Literacy Coordinator (in English, Applied Linguistics, Education or a Related Discipline)

Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach an academic literacy module on the QQ campus, including online and/or blended learning formats.
- Design formative and summative assessments within the Academic Literacy Programme/module.
- Mark assessments and provide feedback to students.
- Develop learning and teaching materials for facilitators within the programme.
- Ensure continuous curriculum development of the academic literacy module.
- Utilize various communication platforms to engage with students and facilitators.
- Manage the implementation and support of the M-Reader and iCAN extensive reading programmes for your cohort.
- Conduct academic writing workshops and consultations for students, both online and face-to-face.
- Coordinate and ensure quality through facilitator evaluation, moderation, and student module evaluations.
Research
- Investigate students’ academic literacy needs within the Qwaqwa campus context.
- Analyze global trends in academic literacies related to strategic imperatives.
- Produce one research output annually, such as a conference paper or journal article.
- Foster a culture of inquiry, research, and evidence-based practice within the ALLD.
Leadership and Administration
- Coordinate academic literacy modules, including online and blended formats.
- Oversee daily administrative activities of the course.
- Provide strategic advice to enhance the programme.
- Monitor student performance and intervene as needed.
- Manage all administrative aspects, including attendance and grading.
- Lead and manage facilitators, including meetings and performance management.
- Coordinate class allocations and student groups.
- Develop and deliver facilitator training, providing ongoing support and mentorship.
- Ensure quality in appointments and facilitate faculty interaction.
- Collaborate with faculty to align literacy modules with disciplinary needs and content.
- Assist in developing mentorship initiatives.
- Lead curriculum and assessment renewal efforts.
Engaged Scholarship
- Use expertise to engage with external and non-academic stakeholders, generating and disseminating knowledge.
- Participate in community events and professional activities.
- Demonstrate commitment to broader learning and teaching needs.
- Engage actively with professional bodies related to the field.
Inherent Job Requirements
- PhD in English, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related discipline at NQF Level 10 (permanent appointment).
- OR Master’s degree at NQF Level 9 (contract appointment for five years, with a PhD required for conversion to permanent).
- Proven experience in conference presentations or equivalent activities.
- Evidence of manuscripts suitable for publication.
- Good academic record (please attach).
- Minimum three years’ experience in academic literacy or English language in higher education.
Recommendations
- Proven coordination in higher education teaching and learning activities.
- Experience in curriculum design, materials development, and student assessment.
- Experience in university writing centre consulting.
- Experience in research, both desktop and field.
- Qualification in TEFL, TESOL, or related courses.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Blackboard, Moodle, Sakai, Canvas).
- Willingness to pursue a relevant PhD if not already attained.
