Description

Duties and responsibilities:

• Provide formal teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Plant Breeding.
• Expand the current research in crop improvement for abiotic stress tolerance within Plant Breeding.
• Perform the necessary administration and management of greenhouse and field trials of relevant projects.
• Ensure active involvement in research by publishing research outputs in accredited national and international peer-reviewed journals.
• Provide supervision to postgraduate students (Honours, Masters, and Doctoral levels).
• Perform general administration duties as applicable at university level.
• Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty.

Inherent requirements:

• A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Plant Breeding or closely related field.
• Proven teaching experience in Higher Education at undergraduate level.
• Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
• Evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.

Recommendations:

• Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant work experience related to duties and responsibilities listed.
• Evidence of independent management of research projects.
• Good track record of research outputs.
• Experience in “omics” techniques such as metabolomics, transcriptomics and genomics.
• Bioinformatics knowledge.
• Experience with statistical analysis using R software.
• Knowledge of abiotic stress physiology.
• Experience in greenhouse and field trial management.
• Experience in student supervision.
• A valid driver’s license (attach a copy).
