Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  • A Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution and carry out activities to maintain and develop his / her professional activities to the profession or discipline. An academic at this level is also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and / or professional activities.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Teaching and Learning

  • The conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions, and studio sessions.
  • Initiation and development of subject material.
  • Development and Supervision

  • The preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars.
  • Supervision of the program of study of honours students or of postgraduate students who engage in coursework.
  • Teaching activities may include the supervision of honours and research students.
  • Research and Innovation

  • Supervision of major honours or postgraduate research projects.
  • The conduct of research.
  • Involvement in professional activity.
  • Development of course material

  • Development of course material with appropriate advice and support from more senior employees.
  • Marking and assessment.
  • Consultation with students.
  • Minimum requirements

  • A Master of Commerce (NQF Level 9) in Business Management / Marketing Management / Safety Business Management / any other relevant field.
  • The master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. Please attach proof of the results in your application.
  • Academic excellence in a research-focused MCom degree, with evidence of research involvement and current and current PhD application or registration.
  • A minimum of (2) two years’ support for undergraduate teaching experience through subject-related tutoring and active
  • involvement in presenting or sharing knowledge within a teaching and learning context.
  • Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age.
  • KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES :

  • Computer literacy in MS Office, e-mail, and the internet.
  • Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance.
  • Research outputs would be desirable.
  • A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in the students’ educational environment.
  • KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES :

  • Effective time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation.
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
  • The ability to function well individually and as part of a team / subject group.
  • Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as the ability to be self-driven.
  • Ability to solve problems independently.
  • High level of professional and ethical conduct.
