Job summary

IIE Rosebank International invites applications for a Lecturer in the Intermediate Phase. The role involves training and educating students, student consultations, and developing a knowledge base through research and development, with support to Academic Development Consultants.

Required are a B.Ed. Honours and an undergraduate/ postgraduate qualification in the Intermediate Phase, including Northern Sotho as a major.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a B.Ed. Honours degree and the undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in the Intermediate Phase.
• The undergraduate qualification must include Northern Sotho as a major (up to third year level).
• School teaching experience in the Intermediate Phase (3 years).
• Lecturing experience 1–3 years (Ideal).

Responsibilities

• Lecturing: deliver lectures and facilitate workshops and tutorials as required.
• Teaching and Learning Support to students and staff.
• Develop teaching capacity and standards on campus with the Academic Development team.
• Ensure academic conventions are taught and assessed per timetable.
• Collaborate with librarians on information literacy for students and lecturers.
• Coordinate lecturer forums and faculty meetings under supervision.
• Engage in Research and Development activities.
• Provide team support and contribute to academic community.

Job Purpose:

The purpose of the lecturer position involves the training and education of students; student consultations; the establishment of a knowledge base of the discipline through academic research & development and providing support to the Academic Development Consultants.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lecturing: Lecture and facilitate Student Support workshops and subject-specific tutorials as required.
• Teaching and Learning Support.
• Develop teaching & learning capacity and standards on campus by assisting the Academic Development Co-ordinator and contract lecturers.
• Ensure academic conventions are communicated and taught on campus and preparation, lecturing and marking in relevant discipline according to timetable.
• Work with the librarians on information literacy for students and lecturers.
• Under the direction of the Academic Development Consultants, coordinate and run lecturer forums and faculty meetings.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications

• A minimum of a B.Ed. Honour’s degree and the undergraduate qualification or postgraduate qualification in the Intermediate Phase.
• The undergraduate qualification must include Northern Sotho as a major (up to third year level)

Experience

• School Teaching experience in the Intermediate Phase (3 years)
• Lecturing experience 1 – 3 years (Ideal)

• Knowledge and understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.
  Knowledge and understanding of the Teaching and Learning theory and interventions.
• The ability to provide student support services.
• The ability to work with and learn more about digitalized academic platforms.
• The ability to cope with a frequently changing environment and to adapt to evolving situations.
• Ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.
• Deadline orientated and can work well under pressure.
• Ability to manage time effectively.

Working Hours

Classes are scheduled from 08h00am until 17h00pm, Monday to Friday. Your working hours will depend on the modules assigned to you according to the timetable.
