Department Description

The Department of Media Studies is seeking to appoint a Lecturer on a three-year contract starting in July. The successful candidate will play a central role in teaching and research that is both theoretically innovative and relevant to media studies in South Africa, Africa, and globally.

Requirements
  • PhD in media and communication studies or a related discipline
  • Appropriate publication record
  • Expert knowledge in one or more fields related to media/journalism, culture and practice, consumer culture, gender studies, and media and popular culture in Africa
  • Teaching experience is essential
  • Experience of supervision and curriculum/teaching innovation is desirable
Responsibilities
  • Offer wide-ranging teaching across all study years
  • Implement student-centred methodologies to facilitate development and growth
  • Supervise postgraduate students at Honours and MA levels, with PhD supervision to be added later
  • Maintain research activity in relevant areas
  • Carry out departmental administrative duties
  • Participate in the intellectual and public life of the university
