Job description

Our client, a prestigious tertiary education institution located in the West Rand, Johannesburg, is seeking a Lecturer: Engineering to join their dynamic academic team. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a passionate and knowledgeable engineering professional to contribute to the education and development of future industry leaders. The ideal candidate will bring both academic expertise and practical industry experience to deliver high-quality instruction and mentorship to students.

Academic Leadership & Campus Support
  1. Assist with reviewing academic results of all students within the School on campus and implement an appropriate teaching and learning strategy for “At risk” students and “At risk” modules.
  2. Provide academic counselling and support to students within the School.
  3. Support the development of new programmes for accreditation.
  4. Assist in the development of academic material and assessments for programmes within the School, acting as developer, module leader, moderator, or head of programme for the Central Academic Team (CAT).
  5. Support the campus marketing team with specialised knowledge of the programmes within the School.
  6. Assist with plagiarism offences and disciplinary procedures.
  7. Manage academic support and administrative duties during the campus registration period.
  8. Support the student tracking process.
  9. Conduct student consultations.
  10. Participate in, or chair, Engineering Committees.
  11. Assist with Teaching & Learning initiatives.
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum Qualification Requirements :
  1. BEng and a Master of Engineering (NQF Level 9) in Civil Engineering.
  2. Registration as a Professional Engineer is highly advantageous.
Minimum Work Experience Requirements :
  1. At least 2 years of teaching and learning experience, preferably in a tertiary education environment.
  2. Experience in curriculum design and development.
  3. Research and publication record in scholarly journals and/or conference proceedings.
  4. Understanding of the regulatory framework impacting higher education and private colleges.
  5. Professional and advanced communication skills.
  6. Organisational and planning skills.
  7. Ability to operate under pressure and industry conditions.
  8. Data analysis and interpretation skills.
  9. Attention to detail and quality focus.
  10. Evidence of advanced teaching and learning expertise through a Teaching Portfolio.
  11. Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00.

  1. Develop and maintain relationships with industry for student placements, bursaries, and sponsorships.
  2. Engage in professional activities like conference papers and higher degree studies.

  4. Engage with professional bodies such as ECSA, SAICE, SAIEE, and SAIMechE.
  5. Deliver lectures on engineering programmes across various delivery modes.
  6. Mark assessments and provide student feedback; moderate assessment scripts as needed.
  7. Supervise Capstone Design and Research Modules.
Student Development & Campus Support
  1. Support academic development for specific programmes and students.
  2. Track student success and implement support interventions.
  3. Contribute to lecturer development through peer reviews, workshops, and consultations.
  4. Coordinate the engineering learning centre (ELC) and its teaching assistants/tutors.
  5. Coordinate the engineering society for student industry engagement.
Research & Scholarship
  1. Promote a culture of scholarship and contribute to research output targets.
