Job description

Direct Reporting Line: Head of Engineering, IIE MSA. Since April, we have been part of The Independent Institution of Education (The IIE), a leader in higher education.

The IIE is internationally recognized by the British Accreditation Council.

IIE MSA is located on a campus in Ruimsig, Johannesburg, in Gauteng province.

In addition to South African students, IIE MSA hosts a diverse student body from 50 African countries. The Ruimsig Campus in Roodepoort has a vacancy for a Lecturer in Engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Academic Leadership & Campus Support
  • Review academic results and implement strategies for 'At risk' students and modules.
  • Provide academic counseling and support.
  • Support development of new programmes and academic materials.
  • Assist with plagiarism and disciplinary procedures.
  • Manage academic support during registration periods.
  • Conduct student consultations.
  • Participate in Engineering Committees.
  • Assist with Teaching & Learning initiatives and accreditation visits.
  • Industry, Professional Management & Building Partnerships
    • Develop relationships with industry for student placements and sponsorships.
    • Organize events and engage with professional bodies like ECSA, SAICE, SAIEE, and SAIMechE.
  • Lecturing
    • Lecture on engineering programmes across various delivery modes.
    • Mark assessments and provide feedback.
    • Moderate assessments where necessary.
    • Supervise Capstone Design and Research Modules.
  • Student Development & Campus Support
    • Support academic development and track student success.
    • Assist in lecturer development, peer reviews, workshops, and consultations.
    • Coordinate the Engineering Learning Centre and Engineering Society activities.
  • Research & Scholarship
    • Promote a culture of scholarship and contribute to research output.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements
    • BEng and Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 9)
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer (advantageous)

    • At least 2 years in teaching and learning, preferably in higher education
    • Experience in curriculum design and development
    • Research and publication record
    • Understanding of regulatory frameworks in higher education
    Additional Details

    Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00
