Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership & Campus Support
- Review academic results and implement strategies for 'At risk' students and modules.
- Provide academic counselling and support students.
- Support development of new programmes for accreditation.
- Develop academic materials, assessments, and act as module leader, moderator, or head of programme.
- Assist the marketing team with programme knowledge.
- Handle plagiarism and disciplinary procedures.
- Manage academic support and administrative duties during registration.
- Track student progress and conduct consultations.
- Participate in or chair Engineering Committees.
- Support Teaching & Learning initiatives and accreditation visits (ECSA, CHE, BAC).
Industry, Professional Management & Building Partnerships
- Build relationships with industry for student placements, bursaries, and sponsorships.
- Engage in professional activities like conference papers and higher degree studies.
- Organise campus events to foster industry relationships.
- Engage with professional bodies such as ECSA, SAICE, SAIEE, and SAIMechE.
Lecturing
- Lecture on engineering programmes, preferably on an IIE qualification.
- Mark assessments and provide feedback; moderate assessments if needed.
- Supervise Capstone Design and Research Modules.
Student Development & Campus Support
- Support academic development for specific programmes and students.
- Track student success and implement interventions.
- Support lecturer development through peer reviews and workshops.
- Coordinate the engineering learning centre and engineering society activities.
Research & Scholarship
- Promote scholarship culture and contribute to research output targets.
Required Competencies:
- Excellent communication, organisational, and planning skills.
- Proven computer literacy.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Data analysis skills.
- Attention to detail and quality focus.
- Advanced teaching expertise with a portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BEng and Master of Engineering (NQF Level 9) in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration is advantageous.
Minimum Work Experience:
- At least 2 years in Teaching and Learning, preferably in higher education.
- Experience in curriculum design and development.
- Research and publication record.
- Understanding of higher education regulatory frameworks.
