The PGCE FET and Senior Phase Lecturer and Programme Coordinator is responsible for the academic management, lecturing, and coordination of the PGCE FET and Senior Phase programme. This role requires adherence to South African regulatory frameworks, ensuring that the programme meets quality, compliance, and accreditation standards. The position also involves developing and delivering high-quality education, conducting research, and fostering student success.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership and Programme Coordination
- Lead and coordinate the PGCE FET and Senior Phase programme, ensuring curriculum alignment with CHE and DHET requirements.
- Design, develop, and continuously improve the programme to meet industry standards, best practices, and accreditation requirements.
- Engage with stakeholders, including industry experts, alumni, and academic peers, to ensure the programme remains relevant and aligned with current educational needs.
- Oversee the recruitment and management of qualified part-time lecturers, ensuring they meet CHE standards and are provided with the necessary resources and support.
- Implement quality assurance processes, including regular programme evaluations and adherence to national higher education quality frameworks.
Lecturing and Curriculum Development
- Deliver engaging lectures that integrate both theoretical and practical components relevant to FET and Senior Phase education.
- Develop and periodically refresh course content to align with the latest educational standards and practices.
- Utilize advanced technology and digital tools to create multimedia content and facilitate effective online and in-person delivery of courses.
- Design meaningful assessments that align with learning outcomes, incorporating student feedback to enhance learning experiences.
- Ensure that all content supports overarching curriculum goals and learning objectives, specifically tailored to the needs of FET and Senior Phase education.
Student Support and Success
- Provide comprehensive academic advising and mentorship, supporting students in their research, assignments, and overall academic journey.
- Develop and oversee initiatives aimed at enhancing student support services, academic success rates, and employability upon graduation.
- Coordinate and supervise teaching practice placements, ensuring students gain practical experience aligned with the programme’s objectives.
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment that accommodates the diverse backgrounds and needs of students.
Research and Innovation
- Conduct research to inform programme development, staying abreast of the latest trends and best practices in education.

Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with CHE standards and DHET regulations in all aspects of the programme, including assessments, content delivery, and student support.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on programme performance, including student throughput rates and graduation statistics.
- Maintain accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and other essential information, ensuring compliance with legal and institutional regulations.

- Engage with fellow faculty, committees, and professional organizations, contributing insights and fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance expertise in FET and Senior Phase education, pedagogical skills, and the integration of technology in education.
- Actively participate in academic governance meetings, providing insightful contributions to discussions on programme development and policy compliance.
Administrative and Organisational Oversight
- Coordinate various organisational and administrative aspects of the programme, ensuring smooth operation and alignment with institutional goals.
- Assist with the registration process of students and verify their eligibility for graduation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with institutional policies.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Background
- A Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Education, specializing in FET and Senior Phase education, or equivalent are essential.
- A PGCE qualification and Master’s degree in Education specialising in FET and Senior would also be acceptable.
- Registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
Experience
- At least 5 years of teaching experience in FET and/or Senior Phase education, with experience in academic leadership and programme coordination.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation, with a strong understanding of CHE regulatory frameworks and South African education policies.
