Job description

Brief Description: The Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand is looking to appoint one new member of academic staff at the level of Lecturer.

This is a 2-year fixed term position.

The department is seeking applications from researchers with expertise in any area of Political Studies or related discipline, and with an ability to teach across a range of undergraduate courses.

The successful candidate will begin in January and be expected to immediately integrate into the Department's lifeworld through teaching large and diverse classes in all years of undergraduate study, cooperating with colleagues in advancing the objectives of the Department, and contributing actively to the intellectual and administrative life of the Department and University.

Candidates should possess a PhD.

Candidates with experience in university teaching, supervision of post-graduate students, an established publication record, funding, and administration will have a strong advantage. The Department is committed to making appointments that will contribute to demographic representativeness amongst academic staff, so we are particularly keen to attract candidates who are currently under-represented in the department.

Therefore, special preference will be given to female, black South African candidates.

Remuneration: A competitive salary will be offered dependent on qualifications and experience. Enquiries ONLY: Dr Ahmed Veriava, Head of Department.
