The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a committed and experienced medical professional to join our team as a Clinical Educator. This pivotal academic role is ideally suited to an individual currently serving as a Senior Medical Officer or higher, with a passion for medical education and a strong commitment to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and manage the Graduate Entry Medical Program (GEMP 1–4), focusing on maintaining and enhancing teaching quality on the Internal Medicine Clinical Training Platform.
  2. Coordinate teaching activities across three central academic hospitals:
  • Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH)
  • Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH)
  • Additional affiliated and future teaching sites within the extended academic platform.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and ensure consistency in clinical teaching standards across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with academic and clinical staff to support effective undergraduate medical education delivery.
  • Conduct and publish qualitative research related to clinical education and teaching initiatives within Internal Medicine and the Unit for Undergraduate Medical Education (UUME).
  • Assist in capturing and analysing data from the GEMP teaching programmes to inform best practices and contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Require at least 5 years of post-community service clinical experience.
  • Hold full, independent registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Experience in medical education and/or clinical teaching is advantageous.
  • A Wits MBChB graduate is preferred.
