Job summary

BDO South Africa's Academy is seeking a Learning and Development Manager to design, develop and deliver professional accounting and corporate training programmes, including ACCA courses. The role combines accounting expertise with curriculum development and requires strong presentation skills to engage audit, finance and leadership audiences.

The successful candidate will lead course design, deliver both in-person and online sessions, and contribute to thought leadership while expanding BDO

Qualifications

• Qualified CA(SA) or ACCA member in good standing.
• Minimum 3-5 years post-qualification experience in audit, accounting, advisory, or professional education.
• Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, auditing standards, and financial reporting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong presentation and facilitation ability.
• Demonstrated interest in teaching, mentoring, or professional training.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop professional education programmes, including ACCA courses and other accounting, finance, and assurance related subjects.
• Develop high-quality training materials including slides, case studies, mock exams, technical notes, and practical exercises.
• Create engaging digital learning content for online delivery platforms.
• Deliver technical training sessions for professional qualification programmes (e.g., ACCA).
• Facilitate corporate training workshops for clients across the accounting, finance, audit, and risk environment.
• Deliver both face-to-face and virtual training sessions.
• Provide guidance and support to students and corporate participants to enhance learning outcomes.
• Assist in the planning and coordination of professional courses and corporate training programmes.
• Monitor student performance and provide feedback where appropriate.
• Support the continuous improvement of BDO Academy training programmes based on participant feedback and learning outcomes.
• Assist with the development of customised corporate training programmes for clients.
• Participate in meetings with clients to understand training requirements and design appropriate learning solutions.
• Contribute to proposals and presentations for new training engagements.
• Contribute to the development of new training products and learning initiatives.
• Stay current with developments in accounting standards, auditing standards, corporate governance, and professional education.
• Support the growth and visibility of BDO Academy within the professional training market.

The successful candidate will play a central role in expanding BDO Academy’s learning offering by designing and delivering high-quality courses across professional accounting qualifications (including ACCA) as well as customised corporate training programmes for clients. This role requires a combination of technical accounting expertise, strong presentation skills, curriculum development capability, and a passion for education and professional development. The position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse audience including audit professionals, finance teams, and senior leaders across multiple industries.

Key Responsibilities

Course Design and Development

• Design and develop professional education programmes, including ACCA courses and other accounting, finance, and assurance related subjects
• Develop high-quality training materials including slides, case studies, mock exams, technical notes, and practical exercises
• Create engaging digital learning content for online delivery platforms
• Ensure training content aligns with relevant professional syllabi, accounting standards, and best practice

Training Delivery

• Deliver technical training sessions for professional qualification programmes (e.g., ACCA)
