Job description

Lead / Senior Firefighter

Regional areas

Positions exist for the use and application of Firefighters within the Fidelity Group to respond and deal with fire-related incidents.

The main responsibilities include responding to fire incidents, firefighting, emergency rescue services, basic medical care, fire prevention, training activities, operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and apparatus, and all related work to protect lives and property of Fidelity Group clients.

Key areas of responsibility: (Not totally inclusive) carries out firefighting activities and emergency operations under guidance, mentorship, and supervision of seniors and officers in charge by:

  1. Responding to fires, rescues, and related emergency and non-emergency incidents
  2. Responding to incidents involving hazardous substances
  3. Extricating and/or releasing casualties and carrying out emergency operations as directed
  4. Resuscitating and treating injured persons as directed
  5. Operating equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires
  6. Undertaking fire protection duties to protect lives or property, with appropriate equipment
  7. Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duties under supervision
  8. Participating in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training
  9. Training employees on fire fighting theory and practice
  10. Advising on preventative and corrective actions
  11. Implementing procedures and strategies for security activities
  12. Performing basic maintenance on equipment
  13. Checking, cleaning, testing, and maintaining vehicles and equipment
  14. Maintaining proper records of occurrences
  15. Conducting health and safety inspections
  16. Completing documentation and participating in safety meetings
  17. Driving and operating heavy vehicles and machinery at emergency incidents
  18. Ensuring fire apparatus and equipment are operational and safe
  19. Assisting with fire and safety training, inspections, and drills
  20. Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act
  21. Conducting safety inspections and maintaining protective clothing
  22. Maintaining equipment and completing shift routines
  23. Undertaking supervisory functions

Qualifications, experience, and other competencies required:

  • Grade 12 minimum qualification
  • IFSAC Accredited
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certification
  • Firefighter II Certification
  • At least 2-3 years firefighting experience
  • Valid C1 driver’s license with PrDP
  • Advanced driving experience is advantageous
  • Medically and physically fit
  • Knowledge of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems
  • Clear criminal record
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
  • Interpersonal, communication, and customer liaison skills
  • Hazmat experience and knowledge
  • EMT certification
  • First Aid Levels 1-3

Core Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Hazmat guidelines
  • Understanding of security industry standards and conduct
  • Knowledge related to firefighter instructor roles
