Lead/Senior Firefighter

Positions exist for the use and application of Firefighters within the Fidelity Group to respond and deal with any and all fire-related incidents.
The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responding to fire incidents, firefighting, emergency rescue services, rendering basic medical care, fire prevention and training activities, operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and apparatus, and all related work to protect lives and property of the Fidelity Group's clients.
Key areas of responsibility: (Not totally inclusive)
- Responding to fires, rescues, and related emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidents
- Responding to incidents involving hazardous substances
- Extricating and/or releasing casualties and carrying out emergency operations as directed by the level of authority
- Resuscitating and treating injured persons and carrying out emergency operations as directed by the next level of authority
- Operating equipment to control, manage, and extinguish fires
- Undertaking fire protection duties in situations that threaten lives or property, with appropriate equipment as directed by supervisors
- Preparing for emergency incidents and protection duties under guidance and supervision of seniors and officers in charge
- Participating in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training as directed
- Training relevant employees on firefighting theory and practice
- Advising on preventative and corrective actions
- Implementing procedures, strategies, and using proper equipment to promote security activities
- Performing basic maintenance on equipment to ensure operational readiness
- Checking, cleaning, testing, and maintaining vehicles and equipment
- Maintaining proper records of daily occurrences through computerized logs
- Conducting health and safety inspections to ensure a safe work environment
- Completing necessary documentation
- Participating in departmental health and safety meetings
- Driving and operating heavy and specialized vehicles/appliances at emergency incidents as directed
- Operating machinery for access, extrication, and other emergency operations
- Ensuring fire apparatus and emergency equipment are safe and effective
- Assisting with fire and safety training, inspections, and education
- Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act, including safety inspections and protective clothing
- Maintaining equipment and effecting repairs at shift level to ensure readiness
- Completing shift-related administrative routines and maintaining records
- Undertaking supervisory and personnel functions
Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies
- Grade 12 minimum qualification
- IFSAC Accredited
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certification
- Firefighter II Certification
- Firefighting training with 2-3 years related experience
- Valid code C1 driver’s license with PrDP
- Advanced driving experience (advantageous)
- Medically and physically fit
- Knowledge of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems
- Clear criminal record
- Ability to react efficiently to emergencies
- Interpersonal, administration, and customer liaison skills
- Hazmat experience and knowledge
- EMT certification
- First Aid levels 1 to 3
Core Competencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Understanding of Hazmat guidelines
- Knowledge of security industry standards and conduct
- Understanding of firefighter instructor applications within operational roles
