About the Role

This senior role involves designing, constructing, and testing novel biological parts, devices, and systems. You will lead a team of talented scientists and engineers, driving projects that leverage the power of synthetic biology to create groundbreaking products and solutions for industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to agriculture. We are seeking an individual with exceptional leadership qualities, a deep understanding of biological engineering principles, and a passion for translating scientific discoveries into tangible applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of synthetic biologists, guiding research strategies and project execution.
• Design, build, and test synthetic gene circuits, metabolic pathways, and microbial strains for specific applications.
• Develop and implement high-throughput screening and characterization methods for engineered biological systems.
• Collaborate with chemists, engineers, and other disciplines to achieve project objectives.
• Oversee laboratory operations, ensuring safety compliance and efficient resource management.
• Analyze complex biological data, interpret results, and present findings to internal stakeholders and external partners.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in synthetic biology, molecular biology, and genetic engineering.
• Contribute to the development of intellectual property and scientific publications.
• Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of progressive research experience in synthetic biology, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
• Strong expertise in DNA assembly methods, metabolic engineering, and gene circuit design.
• Experience with relevant molecular biology techniques, including cloning, PCR, and sequencing.
• Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and statistical analysis for biological data.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead scientific teams effectively.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated experience in publishing research in reputable scientific journals.
• Experience with microbial fermentation or cell-based assay development is a significant advantage.
• Strong commitment to laboratory safety and ethical research practices.
