We are looking for aLead Software Engineer – OCR/IDP & AWS Integrationto join our financial services client based in Johannesburg for a6-months contractrole.

We are seeking aLead Software Engineerwith strong hands-on experience inOCR (Optical Character Recognition)andIDP (Intelligent Document Processing)solutions, alongside a solid background inAWS cloud infrastructure. You will lead the technical effort to evaluate, integrate, and scale an OCR/IDP system as part of our enterprise AI strategy.

This role requires a mix of technical leadership, software engineering, and stakeholder engagement, and offers the opportunity to build a team from the ground up to drive this key transformation.

Duties & Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

• Lead the evaluation and selection of OCR/IDP vendor solutions
• Architect and integrate the selected solution into our AWS-based infrastructure
• Extend the system into broader AI-driven workflows, including document intelligence, summarization, and automation
• Manage stakeholder engagement and align technical deliverables with strategic goals
• Provide technical mentorship and leadership to the development team
• Design scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions leveraging AWS services
• Apply modern evaluation techniques for OCR/IDP tooling to ensure optimal solution performance

What we are looking for:

• Completed IT degree / BSc degree or other related fields
• 5 - 10 years of experience as a Lead Software Engineer or Technical Lead
• Proven experience with OCR/IDP tools and end-to-end projects
• Strong hands-on expertise in AWS Cloud Services, especially:
• EC2, ECS, Lambda, Step Functions, IAM
• Solid understanding of solution integration, architecture, and system scaling
• Experience leading software development teams and working across departments
• Familiarity with AWS Textract, Comprehend, and Amazon A2I
• Exposure to LLM-based OCR, document QA, or intelligent decision-making
• Experience with HuggingFace or open-source computer vision models
• Background in implementing or evaluating modern IDP/OCR architectures and frameworks
