Placements24 is seeking an experienced Lead Production Engineer to oversee remote South Africa-based production operations in the Oil & Gas sector. You will drive efficiency, safety, and performance, leading distributed teams and collaborating with reservoir, drilling, and facility engineers.

The role emphasizes a remote-first approach, with a focus on optimization, data-driven decision making, and mentoring a high-caliber engineering team across assets.

Qualifications

• Requires a BEng/BSc in Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years in production engineering in Oil & Gas; 3+ years in a leadership role.
• Expertise in production optimization and artificial lift methods (ESP, rod pumps, gas lift).
• Strong knowledge of production chemistry, PVT analysis, and surface facilities operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize production facilities and artificial lift systems to maximize recovery and meet targets.
• Develop and implement production enhancement strategies including well interventions and EOR projects.
• Analyze production data to identify losses and improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.

About the Role

We are offering an exciting fully remote position for a highly experienced Lead Production Engineer to join Our client's dynamic Oil & Gas team. This role is designed for a proactive and results-oriented professional who can manage and optimize production operations from anywhere in South Africa, fostering a truly flexible and innovative work culture. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe production of hydrocarbons, implementing best practices, and driving performance improvements across various assets. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize the performance of production facilities and artificial lift systems to maximize hydrocarbon recovery and maintain production targets.
• Develop and implement production enhancement strategies, including well interventions, workovers, and EOR projects.
• Analyze production data, identify production losses, and develop solutions to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
• Lead and mentor a team of production engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with reservoir, drilling, and facility engineers to ensure integrated asset development and operation.
• Manage production forecasting, budgeting, and reporting processes.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies to enhance production operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in production engineering within the Oil & Gas industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated expertise in production optimization, artificial lift systems (e.g., ESP, rod pumps, gas lift), and wellbore diagnostics.
• Strong understanding of production chemistry, PVT analysis, and surface facility operations.
• Proven experience in managing remote teams and leading projects without direct physical supervision.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, essential for remote collaboration.
• Proficiency in production engineering software and data analysis tools.
