Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related field.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Proven ability to design and execute complex synthetic strategies.
• In-depth knowledge of reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, and modern synthetic methodologies.
• Experience with process development and scale-up is highly desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and execution of complex multi-step synthetic projects for novel organic molecules.
• Develop and optimize synthetic routes, conditions, and troubleshoot transformations.
• Utilize a wide range of modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and instrumentation.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using advanced analytical methods (e.g., NMR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC, GC).
• Oversee and guide the work of junior chemists and research associates on assigned projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process development and analytical departments, to ensure seamless project progression in Pretoria.
• Evaluate and implement new synthetic methodologies and technologies to enhance research capabilities.
• Prepare detailed research reports, patent applications, and scientific publications.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and laboratory best practices.
