About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including process development and analytical departments, to ensure seamless project progression in Pretoria.
• Evaluate and implement new synthetic methodologies and technologies to enhance research capabilities.
• Prepare detailed research reports, patent applications, and scientific publications.
• Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and laboratory best practices.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in synthetic organic chemistry, preferably within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and executing complex synthetic strategies for diverse classes of organic molecules.
• In-depth knowledge of reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, and modern synthetic methodologies.
• Proficiency in using advanced analytical techniques for structural elucidation and purity assessment (e.g., high-field NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS, X‑ray crystallography).
• Proven ability to lead research projects, mentor junior scientists, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a creative approach to synthetic challenges.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly.
• Experience with process development and scale‑up considerations is highly desirable for this role in Pretoria.
