About the Role

Our client is looking for an accomplished Lead Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Computer Vision to spearhead innovative projects within their advanced research and development division, based in Tembisa, Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced computer vision algorithms and machine learning models.
• Manage and mentor a team of machine learning engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Oversee the entire ML lifecycle, from data collection and preprocessing to model training, validation, and deployment in production environments.
• Collaborate closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to define project requirements and technical roadmaps.
• Conduct rigorous experimentation and performance analysis to optimize model accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
• Stay at the forefront of research in computer vision and deep learning, identifying and integrating novel techniques.
• Ensure the robustness, reliability, and ethical implications of deployed AI systems.
• Contribute to technical documentation, code reviews, and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field, with a specialization in Computer Vision or Machine Learning.
• Proven track record of 7+ years in machine learning engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior technical role.
• Deep expertise in computer vision techniques, including object detection, image segmentation, facial recognition, and generative models.
• Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in libraries like OpenCV, NumPy, and Pandas.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps practices.
• Excellent understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage projects, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
