Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Microbiologist to lead industrial microbiology R&D in Richards Bay. You will design and execute experiments, manage projects, and develop microbial solutions for bioprocessing, environmental remediation, and fermentation applications.

The role requires a Ph.D./M.Sc. in microbiology with 6+ years of industrial experience, strong isolation/characterization skills, molecular biology proficiency, and excellent communication to collaborate with engineers and product

Qualifications

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Microbial Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial microbiology with a strong understanding of fermentation technology.
• Proficiency in microbial isolation, characterization, and culture techniques.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques relevant to microbial strain improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to manage research projects from conception to completion.
• Strong analytical skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead research into microbial diversity, physiology, and genetics for industrial applications.
• Develop and optimize microbial strains and fermentation processes for enhanced yield and efficiency.
• Design and perform microbial challenge studies and efficacy testing for new product development.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to microbial processes and product performance.
• Ensure adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and relevant industry standards.
• Collaborate with process engineers and product development teams to ensure successful implementation of microbial solutions.
