Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural design and management of heritage conservation and adaptive reuse projects.
• Conduct thorough condition assessments and historical research of heritage buildings.

• Liaise with heritage authorities (e.g., SAHRA), local councils, and other stakeholders to obtain approvals.
• Manage project teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure faithful execution of heritage principles.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation, including heritage impact assessments, conservation plans, and technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with national and international heritage charters and guidelines.
• Advise clients on heritage matters, sustainability integration, and adaptive reuse opportunities.
• Mentor junior architects and heritage specialists within the practice.
• Stay updated on the latest research and methodologies in heritage conservation and architectural history.

Requirements

• Registered Professional Architect with SACAP.
• A minimum of 9 years of post-registration experience, with a significant focus on heritage architecture, conservation, and adaptive reuse.
• Demonstrated experience in managing heritage projects and navigating heritage approval processes.
• In-depth knowledge of historical building materials, construction techniques, and conservation methodologies.
• Familiarity with South African heritage legislation and international conservation charters (e.g., Burra Charter, Venice Charter).
• Proficiency in architectural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and digital documentation tools.
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
