Position: SHEQ Officer
Job Description: The SHEQ Officer is responsible for coordinating the Quality, Environmental, Health, Safety, legal compliance programmes and related issues within the department.
She / he is also responsible for ensuring that the business complies with all relevant SHEQ legislation, company policies and procedures, minimum requirements and permit requirements.

Minimum Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years relevant experience in monitoring and auditing of contractor safety performances.
- Experience in implementing Health and Safety in a highly technical, complex Industrial environment essential.
- Exposure to and understanding of the implementation of OHSAS / and ISO.
- Experience in submitting COID cases is essential.
- SHEQ Audit / Inspections.
- Incident Investigation.
- Environmental & Quality qualifications are an advantage.
Qualification:
- National Senior Certificate / Matric.
- National Diploma or equivalent in Health & Safety Management.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Process & Administration
- Coordinate and manage SHEQ service providers.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regional rules, regulations, and legislation.
- Schedule, document, and control SHEQ meetings.
- Monitor and enforce contractor compliance with SHEQ requirements.
- Conduct and support accident and incident investigations.
- Assist in the implementation and continuous improvement of the SHEQ management system.
- Update SHEQ systems in line with legislative and industry standard changes.
- Maintain document and data control systems in line with SHEQ standards.
- Promote SHEQ awareness across the organization.
- Monitor audit findings, recommend, and track corrective and preventive actions.
- Facilitate and conduct risk assessments and ensure follow-up on findings.
- Issue and manage non-conformances where applicable.
- Support management in setting and reviewing SHEQ objectives and targets.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of SHEQ management plans and provide recommendations.
- Maintain control and training registers and ensure accuracy.
- Ensure that all site safety files are up to date and compliant.
COID MANAGEMENT (COMPENSATION FOR OCCUPATIONAL INJURIES AND DISEASES):
- Complete, review, and approve COID documentation and system entries.
- Serve as the liaison between the business and third-party COID reporting service providers.
- Ensure accurate control and record-keeping of all COID-related information.
- Maintain COID processes in line with the Control of Documented Information procedures.
CLIENT & STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal business representatives.
- Provide regular feedback to clients, addressing and resolving queries promptly.
- Collaborate with client SHEQ teams to ensure alignment on SHEQ activities.
- Align all SHEQ initiatives with Group values and policies.
- Report significant SHEQ concerns directly to the Group SHEQ Manager.
- Generate and distribute scheduled reports (subject to Group SHEQ Manager approval), including: Incident Reports, Section 24 & 25 Reports, Training Reports, Department of Labour Progress Reports.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS:
- Integrate and align quality systems and documentation across the business.
- Manage the non-conformance process including investigation and resolution of client complaints, service performance issues, and system reliability.
- Compile weekly and monthly reports on SHEQ statistics and trends.
- Promote continuous improvement through data analysis and performance measurement.
- Prepare monthly SHEQ newsletters and Group statistics.
SYSTEMS AUTOMATION:
- Maintain SHEQ systems and tools.
- Report system issues or deviations promptly to ensure swift resolution.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT & TRAINING:
- Empower employees to take ownership of the SHEQ Management System.
- Conduct regular SHEQ awareness training across all operational sites.
- Ensure compliance and certification for: Health and Safety Representatives, First Aiders, Firefighters, Hazardous Material Handlers.
