Placements24 seeks a Lead R&D Engineer to advance battery technology at its Sandton facility. You will design experiments, prototype components, and evaluate performance, safety, and scalability in a high-impact energy storage program.

The role requires a strong electrochemistry background, team leadership, and a track record of delivering research from concept to prototype. On-site work in Sandton is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of R&D experience in battery technology.
• Strong understanding of battery chemistries and degradation mechanisms.
• Hands-on experience with battery fabrication, testing equipment, and analytical techniques.
• Proven experience leading R&D projects and managing technical teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to work on-site in Sandton facility.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D projects focused on advanced battery chemistries and architectures.
• Design and conduct experiments for electrode materials and cell assembly.
• Characterize battery materials and cells using electrochemical techniques and analyses.
• Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for lab- and pilot-scale.
• Evaluate performance, safety, and energy density of batteries.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Prepare reports, publications, and present findings to stakeholders.
