Laboratory Technician (Plant)

(Automotive Manufacturing)

Department: Quality

Job Purpose:
Perform laboratory tests to ensure product quality and help develop new formulations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • National Diploma/N6 in Analytical Chemistry or related field
  • At least 3 years’ testing lab experience in automotive manufacturing
  • Relevant certification

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and register raw material and process samples
  • Conduct product quality tests (e.g., density, tensile strength, flammability, porosity) per standards
  • Operate laboratory equipment (e.g., hardness tester, tensile tester, ovens)
  • Record and report results daily; prepare technical reports
  • Coordinate testing with external labs and other plants
  • Assist with product development and wet testing
  • Support product audits and annual inspections
  • Ensure equipment calibration and lab maintenance
  • Follow quality management systems (QMS) and record keeping
  • Identify and report quality issues; support improvements
  • Conduct capability and measurement system analyses
