Job description

To provide quality medical laboratory services by performing routine analytical procedures, maintaining equipment, and controlling quality assurance within the sphere of responsibility. Administers pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in accordance with service goals. Ensures effective communication, including feedback, with all role players internally and externally. Handles, manages, and completes tasks within targeted times.

QUALIFICATION / KNOWLEDGE:

Relevant Science Degree or Diploma. HPCSA Registration will be an advantage.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Meet Tests Turn Around Times (TATs) within targeted timeframes and standards: Receive, distribute, and process samples according to standard operating procedures, executing systems to meet 95% of TAT performance.
  2. Manage stock levels: Ensure all instrumentation has adequate stock for optimal performance; monitor and maintain stock control continuously.
  3. Accurate processing of patient samples: Process routine and urgent samples per SOPs, ensuring workflow consistency and timely reporting. Engage with external clients/suppliers regarding analyzer breakdowns.
  4. Quality Assurance: Implement good lab practices referencing SANAS / ISO 15189 standards. Run internal and external quality controls, ensure equipment maintenance and calibration.
  5. Health, Safety, and Environment: Ensure staff compliance with HSE regulations, participate as needed, maintain housekeeping and decontamination.
  6. Pre- and Post-Analytical Processes: Manage sample sorting, registration, dispatch, and report filing. Address bottlenecks, handle patient cash, scan forms, and maintain client communication and feedback records. Resolve client queries efficiently, participate in departmental activities, and perform other ad hoc functions.
