Job description

To provide quality medical laboratory services by performing routine analytical procedures, maintaining equipment, and controlling quality assurance within the sphere of responsibility. Administers pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in accordance with service goals, with effective communication internally and externally. Handles, manages, and completes tasks within targeted times.

QUALIFICATION / KNOWLEDGE :

Relevant Science Degree or Diploma.
HPCSA Registration is advantageous.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  1. Meet Tests Turnaround Times (TATs) within targeted timeframes and standards. Receive, distribute, and process samples according to SOPs, executing systems to meet 95% of TAT performance.
  2. Manage stock levels within agreed parameters and safety stock levels. Ensure all instrumentation has adequate stock for optimal performance and monitor stock control continuously.
  3. Accurately process patient samples. Perform routine and urgent sample processing according to SOPs, ensuring workflow consistency and addressing inconsistencies promptly. Engage with external clients/suppliers regarding analyzer breakdowns and failures.
  4. Implement quality assurance by adhering to SANAS / ISO 15189 standards. Complete all quality assurance tasks, run internal and external QC samples, and maintain equipment in line with procedures.
  5. Ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance. Enforce safety rules, represent as an officer if required, and maintain proper housekeeping and decontamination.
  6. Manage pre- and post-analytical processes. Sort and distribute samples, process registration and queries, dispatch specimens, and monitor report progress. Handle client feedback and resolve queries within deadlines.
