Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide quality medical laboratory services by performing routine analytical procedures, maintaining equipment, and controlling quality assurance within the sphere of responsibility. Administers pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in accordance with service goals, ensuring effective communication with all role players internally and externally. Handles, manages, and completes tasks within targeted times.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE:

Relevant Science Degree or Diploma.
HPCSA registration is an advantage.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Meet Tests Turn Around Times (TAT): Receive, distribute, and process samples within TATs according to SOPs, aiming for 95% performance.
  2. Manage Stock Levels: Ensure all instrumentation has adequate stock levels for optimal performance and monitor stock control continuously.
  3. Accurate Processing of Patient Samples: Process routine and urgent samples per SOPs, report inconsistencies, and engage with external clients/suppliers regarding analyzer issues.
  4. Quality Assurance: Implement good lab practices referencing SANAS/ISO 15189 standards, run quality control samples, and maintain equipment calibration and maintenance.
  5. Health, Safety, and Environment: Ensure staff compliance with HSE regulations, represent as an officer if required, and maintain proper housekeeping and decontamination.
  6. Pre and Post Analytical: Manage sample sorting, registration, dispatch, and follow-up on queries. Handle patient payments, scan forms, and maintain client communication and feedback documentation. Participate in departmental activities and training.
