Job description

CLIENT in the MINING INDUSTRY requires the services of a SUPERVISOR ENGINEERING RIGGING at their premises in GAUTENG as soon as possible.

POSITION INFO :

The Supervisor Engineering Rigging is responsible for overseeing all rigging activities within their section or area of responsibility, ensuring strict adherence to the rigging plan, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures. The supervisor leads the rigging team in safely executing tasks such as replacing skips, cages, and ropes, and preparing and securing equipment and machinery for underground production sections. They are also responsible for managing all rigging, lifting equipment/tackles, 3 BMR winders, and a single drum winder in a 3000m single drop shaft.

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a rigger on deep level mines, including Shaft and Winding systems
  • Must be declared medically fit for the environment after a risk-based medical examination at the Occupational Health Centre, pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and any other required assessments
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Proven safety leadership track record
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
  • Independent, proactive, with the ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of mining legislation related to lifting equipment, winders, ropes, lifting tackles, overhead cranes, and regulations
  • Proficiency in technical problem-solving
  • Commitment to health and safety standards for self and team
  • Ability to perform inspections in accordance with Mine Health and Safety Act regulations and company standards
  • Contribute to a zero-harm culture by adhering to legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in health and safety meetings and campaigns
  • Legal compliance as a 2.9.2 appointee in the area of responsibility
  • Monitor conformance to standards, procedures, and codes of practice
  • Manage team performance and training
  • Oversee rigging and heavy lifting work on surface, underground, and vertical shafts
  • Manage operational risks within the section
  • Plan and execute maintenance and repairs safely and timely, meeting targets
  • Calculate rope capacity and load weights accurately
  • Ensure proper execution of winders and ropes functions
  • Manage all rigging maintenance activities
  • Order equipment and ensure critical spares are available
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Assessments (RCFA) for equipment reliability
  • Perform standby duties, attend to call-outs and breakdowns as required
