Kitchen Assistant | Sea Point – Cape Town | Children’s Playhouse

Nationally expanding Children’s Playhouse is opening in Cape Town! We are looking for experienced KITCHEN ASSISTANT to join the team!

Start date: 1^st March 2025

Main duties:

• Ability to perform well under pressure and work quickly and efficiently.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to enjoy working with others.
• Keenness to follow instructions and prepare basic meals.
• Remarkable organization skills and the ability to keep track of kitchen inventory.
• Knowledge of cooking techniques and methods.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations regarding food preparation and storage.
• Basic understanding of how to use kitchen equipment.
• Proven work experience as Kitchen Assistants, Commis Chefs, Assistant Cooks, or other related positions are preferable.
• Washing, cleaning, and food preparation duties in a kitchen.
• Maintain kitchens that can operate efficiently and cleanly so patrons can enjoy safely prepared food.
• Execute some basic recipes as directed by the manager.
• Organizing storage areas so ingredients and tools are easy to access.
• Check inventories, track food wastage and make sure the kitchen meets all health and safety requirements.
• Cleaning and sanitizing food preparation areas to establish proper hygiene.
• Washing and storing all cooking appliances, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.

Candidate expectations:

• Valid work permit and/or SA ID
• At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role
• Hospitality / Kitchen training certification will be welcomed
• Sober habits

Salary package:

• Kitchen Assistant Salary: R30 per hour for a 45-hour week = R5400 per month
• 15 days annual leave (subject to the operational needs of the employer)
• Working hours:
  • Tuesday – Saturday (8:30am – 4:30pm / 8 hours)
  • Sunday (8:30am – 1:30pm / 5 hours)
• Morning tea break = 15 minutes
• Lunch break = half an hour
• Afternoon tea break = 15 minutes
• Employees are entitled to a sandwich from the shop for lunch as well as 1 x beverage
