An incumbent in this role should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Appropriate tertiary qualification in sales, business management, or administration
- 4-6 years of marketing and sales management experience in the oil industry or a comparable industry
- Experience in analyzing and interpreting financial statements/results
- Ability to interact effectively with employees, customers, and government/parastatal organizations
- Strong sales management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills; good analytical and presentation skills
- Understanding of business and legal basics
- People management and interpersonal skills
- Adherence to TMSA’s Code of Conduct, Ethics, Policies, and Procedures
- Computer literacy, including Harmony System (SAP) and SALSA
Main Responsibilities
- Achieve sales budgets for fuels and lubricants and contribute during budgeting processes
- Maintain and nurture good customer relationships in the mining channel
- Manage pricing, rebates, and discounts; ensure all customer-related costs are accounted for
- Collect under recoveries such as transport, product returns, and maintenance costs
- Control gross margin after variable expenses (GMVE) per customer
- Manage customer credit, resolve errors, perform reconciliations, and ensure customer service delivery
- Conduct variance analyses and business reviews per customer, comparing to budgets and taking corrective actions
- Ensure proper stock management and accurate sales forecasting
- Monitor and control costs related to Fuel Management System suppliers and other vendors
- Compile monthly business reviews and KPIs, including asset management
- Manage contracts and administrative duties to ensure contractual obligations are met
Asset & Stock Management
- Manage operating expenditure and working capital through regular budget monitoring to improve profitability
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and TOTAL South Africa requirements for handling, storing, and distributing products
- Identify and collaborate on leads for GT business opportunities with the Regional Sales Manager
- Implement and execute marketing strategies and activities to meet objectives
- Gather and report market intelligence, competitor activities, and pricing strategies
- Propose opportunities for investments and participate in developing sales and marketing strategies
HSEQ
- Manage HSEQ and security to ensure compliance with company standards, local by-laws, and legislation, minimizing risks and ensuring safety
- Ensure HSE policies, rules, and legal requirements are followed; promote a safe working environment and contribute to HSE KPIs and risk reduction strategies
People
- Assist in developing, coaching, and mentoring trainees and new sales staff to foster a positive working environment, attract and retain skilled staff, and increase productivity
