Job Description
As the Junior Veterinary Researcher, your primary role is to conduct research studies on animals for veterinary drug development under strict adherence to site SOP’s. Such studies may need to comply with GCP or GLP guidelines.
Responsibilities
General research work including (but not limited to) the conduct of research studies, the maintenance of parasitic lifecycles and the review of all documents relating to research, quality assurance and animal ethics.
Conducts GLP/GCP studies
- Study planning and protocol writing (or study plan for GLP).
- Ensure that all consumables necessary for study completion are available.
- Ensure that all involved staff have the required training to perform their tasks.
- Ensure immaculate record keeping in accordance with guidelines.
Processes
client services samples
- Completes laboratory tests for clients such as EPG’s, larval resistance tests, serology, parasite identification etc.
- Generates client services reports.
- Communicates with field representatives on client samples and keeps records of results.
Minor
financial administration including (but not limited to)
- Sourcing quotations,
- Loading purchase orders,
- Keeping track of spending.
Manages the
lifecycle maintenance of certain parasites.
Maintains
laboratory equipment in accordance with site SOP requirements.
Manages certain
assigned areas of responsibility
- Ensures required consumable stock is kept at sufficient levels
- Ensures good housekeeping
- Inspects area for maintenance needs
- Inspects area for compliance with site SOP’s and EHS requirements.
Take the lead in the
writing of SOP’s, study protocols and study reports.
Educational Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Higher National Diploma in Vet. Tech, B. Tech; BHSc Vet Tech. or BSc. degree in any biological sciences (Veterinary Technology is preferred).
Good computer literacy including MS Word and MS Excel.
Personality Requirements
- A good communicator with strong integrity.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good attention to detail.
Specific Experience
- Good Lab Practice/Good Clinical Practice research environment will be an advantage.
- Parasite lifecycle maintenance will be an advantage.
- Research protocol writing will be an advantage.
