Job Description

To outline the responsibilities and authorities of the Junior Technician in relation to post requirements at SGS Randfontein Laboratory.

  1. Log received samples into the SLIMS using work orders from the client.
  2. Print sample labels.
  3. Ensure samples are sorted correctly before labeling and boxing.
  4. Follow all quality directives of this Department.
  5. Operate laboratory instrumentation.
  6. Bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the Chemist.
  7. Adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
  8. Ensure that the housekeeping in the receiving area as well as the micro-balance room is in order.
  9. Comply and conform to Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
  10. Assist with the preparation of SANAS audits.
  11. Record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
  12. Work in other areas and/or Divisions if asked.
  13. Participate and form part of Operational Integrity projects and campaigns.
  14. Apply Check status process and use the Stop Work Authority whenever the control of risks is not clearly established and understood.
  15. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.

Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

Qualifications

Education

  • BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and/or proven years of laboratory knowledge, skills, and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through – Recognition of Prior Learning.
  • Grade 12 / Matric or N3 with Mathematics and Science as subjects.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory.
  • Able to perform various chemical techniques.
  • Computer Literate (Microsoft Office).
  • Experience in instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.
  • Fully acquainted with the SLIMS system (administration & operation).
