Interwaste, a leader in waste management solutions across Southern Africa, is seeking a Junior Technical Services Officer to join our team at the Germiston Head Office.

Role Overview

The Junior Technical Services Officer is responsible to develop and implement operational and administrative support to the Technical team to ensure environmental compliance, control and enforcement requirements regarding waste acceptance, treatment and disposal / recovery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage waste enquiries through an online system as part of the internal group waste acceptance process by updating the database in respect of various licensed waste management facilities.
  • Document and update the technical services waste acceptance procedures as / when required.
  • Assist in Research and Development projects.
  • Provide environmental legal support to facilities and sales departments.
  • Contribute to the Tender processes / queries where multiple waste streams are submitted, to ensure appropriate management solutions are provided and that projects are priced accurately on items.
  • Draft GHS waste classification reports and SDSs.
  • Conduct site visits at customer sites and advise on waste legislation and other environmental legislation related aspects.
  • Conduct site sampling at various locations in South Africa for different customers.
  • Drafting environmental site assessment reports for various Interwaste customers.
  • Support / lead the development of waste treatments methods.
  • Assist the line manager with various tasks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in Environmental Management / Chemical Engineering, or related field(s).
  • Knowledge of regulatory ambit governing environmental and waste management.
  • Experience in waste management, environmental consulting and / or related fields.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Power Point.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills.
  • Have a valid driver’s licence and vehicle and be willing to travel.
  • Conduct site visits and sampling campaigns where necessary.
