Job description

Junior Systems Engineer required in Johannesburg.

A leading travel retail Company is looking for a Junior Systems Engineer to join its Johannesburg-based IT team.

The company operates across airline catering and inflight retail, duty-free airport and downtown stores, and supports its global operations through advanced proprietary platforms that manage point-of-sale, e-commerce, inventory, and business intelligence.

The Junior Systems Engineer will assist in supporting and maintaining IT production and integration systems, resolving incidents, and ensuring effective documentation.

This role plays a key part in keeping complex, high-demand retail systems running smoothly across multiple operational environments

Salary: R20 000 – R23 000 negotiable, based on experience.

Remote / Hybrid (Suitable for candidates based in Johannesburg).

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric (Senior Certificate)
  • University degree or graduate qualification in a related discipline such as Information Technology, Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g. ITIL Foundation)
  • Experience in a systems operations environment (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of SQL (advantageous)
  • Experience working in Windows Server environments
  • Data warehousing experience (advantageous)
  • Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently under pressure, manage variable workloads, and meet deadlines

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1st and 2nd Line Support for business systems
  • Maintain and manage tickets within the incident lifecycle, ensuring timely and effective resolution
  • Investigate data and system inconsistencies reported by users
  • Build and maintain system documentation, including:
  • Architecture overviews and diagrams
  • Security policies and procedures
  • System policies and procedures
  • Data Protection and Retention, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Plans
  • End-user documentation and training materials
  • Support team documentation
  • Monitor system performance and generate reports
  • Manage and drive system incident, problem, and change requests through to resolution
  • Provide technical support for desktop systems, including hardware, software, and peripherals
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to desktop performance, network connectivity, and system access
  • Offer technical guidance and support to end-users to ensure minimal downtime and optimal user experience
