Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Implement and maintain the quality system at all the SGS Natural Resources Laboratories (Geochem and Affiliates) to ensure total compliance to ISO : , SGS SA high level procedures and SGS Global requirements.
2. Operate to the highest standard of ethics as directed by the SGS integrity policy.
3. Participate in strategic planning relating to the quality function in all sections within the facility.
4. Fulfill the role of Quality Manager as per ISO.
5. Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures required to comply with laboratory ISO accreditation.
6. Facilitate and monitor method validation process under the testing scope.
7. Review quality control data for trends and biases.
8. Raise IR's for non-conforming data.
9. Determine control limits for standard reference materials and update Lims system.
10. Facilitate external audits, follow up and resolve external audit action items.
11. Review PT results and raise IR's for non-conforming data.
12. Evaluate, review and monitor re-assays within the facility.
13. Coordinate the database for re-assays billing.
14. Manage document control for the laboratory.
15. Ensure Management of Change is followed for any quality system changes.
16. Coordinate and administer the quality improvement systems.
17. Assist with the evaluation and root cause analysis for proficiency testing data.
18. Investigate customer complaints and improvement requests with assistance from Section Managers.
19. Provide planned quality related training and awareness as required.
20. Facilitate and plan all management reviews.
21. Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental acts, regulations and requirements.
22. Work with a safety conscious attitude and demonstrate good and safe work habits.
23. Participate in the Laboratory continuous improvement program (WCS).
24. Apply Check status process and use the Stop Work Authority whenever the control of risks is not clearly established and understood.
25. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
26. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
27. Responsible for training on new methods and/or procedures.
28. Responsible for all deadlines relating to the quality system (IR's, Audit NC's and Customer Complaints).
29. Travel as required.

PLANNING & COMPLIANCE

1. Contribute with scientific and technical leadership and planning to ensure the quality assurance program is effective and efficient.
2. Ensure that the quality requirements are not subordinated to any prejudicial interest.
3. Responsible for all SANAS matters relating to the accreditation / compliance of the organization.
4. Ensure that the laboratory accreditation under ISO is not jeopardized.
5. Identify non-conformances with respect to the quality system and address these non-conformances in a timely and unbiased approach to achieve customer satisfaction.
6. Provide guidance and direction to laboratory personnel with respect to quality control and proper documentation in implementing methodologies and data reporting.
7. Plan, schedule and perform quality assessments (could be in the form of audits).
8. Ensure data produced is at a defined level of precision and accuracy and meets end users' requirements.
9. Cease use of any equipment that may be a safety hazard or hazardous environment without proper knowledge and protection.
10. Report unsafe situations to higher authority.
11. Cease work that may affect service quality and report to higher authority.
12. Ensure disciplinary procedures for non-conformance are followed.
13. Refuse to perform work that may damage the environment and report such situations.
14. Initiate formal improvement requests when deviations or nonconformities occur.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

1. BSc, BTech or National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or Science, or recognized equivalent through RPL.
2. ISO or College Quality Assurance Program Diploma.
3. Grade 12 / Matric or N3 with Mathematics and Science.
4. 8 Years work experience in a testing environment.
5. 5 Years management system experience (ISO or other).
6. Advanced Microsoft software experience.
7. Document and report writing experience.
8. Statistical Quality Control knowledge.
