Junior Sous Chef – Leisure Resort | Garden Route, South Africa

We are looking for a talented and motivated Junior Sous Chef to join a culinary brigade at a renowned 5-star resort nestled in the stunning Garden Route. This is an opportunity for a passionate chef ready to step into a leadership-support role and grow within a dynamic, high-performance kitchen environment.

As Junior Sous Chef, you will assist the Sous and Executive Chefs in maintaining high culinary standards across all outlets, supporting day-to-day kitchen operations, team development, and service excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing daily kitchen operations across multiple outlets
  • Ensure the consistent preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes
  • Supervise and support kitchen staff during service, ensuring smooth and efficient execution
  • Monitor stock control, portioning, and food cost efficiency
  • Uphold hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness standards at all times
  • Contribute to menu planning, recipe development, and special events
  • Mentor and train junior team members to promote growth and skill development
Requirements
  • A Chef’s Diploma or equivalent from a recognised culinary institution
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1–2 years in a junior leadership role
  • Previous experience in a 5-star hotel or resort kitchen is highly desirable
  • Solid understanding of kitchen operations, food costing, and stock management
  • Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with SAP or kitchen management systems is a plus
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed
