Job description

The key purpose of this position is to assist and support the implementation and maintenance of the SHEQ policies, procedures, systems, processes and practices within CFAO Equipment, Satellite branches and sites, which shall include, but not be limited to risk, safety, security, health, quality, facility and environment.
The incumbent will assist in the implementation of the management systems to monitor safety, health, environment, quality, security and risk within the CFAO Equipment branch/es and sites.

Operational and SHEQ Management:

  • Assist in the implementation of the CFAO Equipment SHEQ strategy at branches and sites.
  • Assist to execute and communicate the SHEQ strategy and SHEQ programmes at branches and sites.
  • Assist to implement the branch or site- specific SHEQ goals and programmes.
  • Provide regular SHEQ reporting to the Regional SHEQ Coordinator.
  • Drive the ANZEN and Zero Harm initiatives at branches and sites and promote a safety culture.
  • Assist to ensure that audit standards are met audit findings are closed out.
  • Assist to implement the carbon neutral project and initiatives at branches and sites.
  • Assist to analyze branches and sites' SHEQ data and identify trends to provide regular reporting and opportunities for improvements.
  • Assist in implementation of the SHEQ policies, procedures and safe work procedures at branches and sites.
  • Inspect and ensure that all safety signs and notices are prominently displayed on the premises.
  • Assist to ensure that SHEQ appointments are trained, appointments in place and records are kept.
  • Inform line management of all SHEQ deviations that have been recorded, are actioned and rectified.
  • Conduct Health & Safety inspections and walkabouts for continuous improvement.
  • Assist to update compliance registers and standard checklists.
  • Assist with first aid treatment and evaluate injured persons if it is needed to send them for medical treatment at a hospital or clinic.
  • Assist to drive good housekeeping and ASEC principles and behaviours at branches and sites.
  • Involved in incident investigations and report preparations.
  • Maintain incident statistics, analyse trends and follow-up on remedial actions.
  • Assist to complete the required documentation with the Department of Labour in the event of reportable injury and follow-up the progress of claims with WCA.
  • Assist to monitor the surveillance programmes (e.g. noise, lux levels, medical etc.) and inform the Regional SHEQ Coordinator accordingly.
  • Assist with compiling the SHEQ reports including sustainability reports.
    • Assist in obtaining permits, licenses or exemptions as required by law for SHEQ of the organization.
    • Assist to facilitate incident and accident investigations.
    • Responsible for all SHEQ administrative work including PPE requisition and issuing.
    • Assist in the implementation of an effective waste management plan.
    • Attend technician meetings for SHEQ purposes (toolbox talks) and keeping record thereof.
    • Input and verify data on Rapid system.

    Training

    • Assist with the training interventions needed for other employees at branches and sites.
    • Assist with appropriate employee training of relevant staff with respect to SHEQ strategies and procedures.
    • Assist to coach and support employees in SHEQ matters and compliance.
    • Conduct safety induction training to inform employees, contractors, customers and visitors of the legal and operational requirements prevalent to the SHEQ legal and compliance requirements at branches and sites.
    • Promote awareness of the impact of environmental decision at branches and sites.

    Risk

    • Assist to identify and control of potential risk exposures during walkabouts, inspections and audits.
    • Assist to conduct safety risk assessments and develop safe working procedures.
    • Assist to implement an Internal Audit plan and perform internal SHEQ audits.
    • Assist to implement the emergency plan and ensure emergency drills are planned and executed.
    • Conduct regular fire prevention and building inspections and report documented findings to management with proposed recommendations.
    • Assist to ensure that only authorised employees, contractors or visitors entering the premises are issued with an indemnity form and are familiar with the safety regulations of the branch or site.
    • Assist Security personnel to ensure that no vehicle enters the company premises without a permit or gate pass and no goods are removed off site without a valid gate pass.
    • Report any person suspected to be under the influence of any intoxicating substances to the Regional SHEQ Coordinator or General Manager.
    • Assist to establish a system for the reporting of workplace hazards and near misses.

    Contractor's Management

    • Ensure contractor compliance in respect of all SHEQ matters.
    • Assist to load contractor info on Rapid system.
    • Ensure that contractor's health and safety policies and standards are in place.
    • Assist and support contractors in the preparation of risk assessments and safe working procedures.
    • Ensure contractors are audited and meet the branch and site SHEQ requirements.
    • Create and update SHEQ safety files for customers.

Desired Skills and Experience

* Matric, Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
* Relevant tertiary qualification, (NQF 5) National Safety Diploma, Safety Management or Environmental Management or studying towards that.
* SAMTRAC would also be an advantage.
* Internal Auditor's or ISO related qualification - ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, NOSA.
* Experience in incident investigation methods.
* Knowledge of OHSACT 85 and related safety legislations.
