Geotechnical Sensing and Consulting Engineering firm has a vacancy for a Junior Project Engineer / Graduate. The role of this permanent full-time position, reporting to the Project Engineer, is to provide technical assistance with the planning, installation, monitoring and reporting of real-time monitoring systems for geotechnical applications in the mining and civil engineering industries. Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical / Civil / Electrical / Electronic / Industrial) and own transport required. Previous working experience is not essential. Based in Johannesburg, Sandton region.

Requirements :

• BEng / BSc Eng in civil, mechanical, industrial or electrical engineering.
• Work experience after graduation is not essential.
• Experience working with hand tools (either at home, hobbies or in a workshop).
• CAD knowledge and experience is desirable.
• Exposure to the mining or civils industry would be desirable.
• Project management exposure would be beneficial.
• Basic programming logic is essential.
• Driving licence and own transport.
• Currently residing in the Johannesburg area.
• A desire (not just an acceptance) for underground site work, project and site management.
• Capacity for autonomous extended underground site visits (multiple days at a time).
• Medically fit to work in an underground mining environment.
• Demonstrable ability to create and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised for extended periods.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Proficient and fluent communication in written and spoken English.
• Working knowledge of Afrikaans would be advantageous.
• Outgoing and engaging – exceptional people skills and the ability to create strong working relationships.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities (this will be tested in the interview).
• Ability to handle client and customer issues tactfully and professionally.
• A demonstrable interest in technology.
• Ability to develop appropriate and effective methodologies from specific objectives.

Duties :

• Providing support and technical assistance for our new technologies to staff and clients.
• Underground (and occasional surface) project work, including installation and monitoring of instrumentation and installation of real-time monitoring systems.
• Quality assurance on new products and any product returns.
• Recording inspection results by completing reports, summarising rework, and database management.
• Providing information for preparing orders for dispatch and stock management.
• Creating and updating weekly status reports.
• Technical report writing.
• Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective and /
• or preventive action.
• Developing internal systems and documentation to optimize procedures.
• Project and site management with a focus on effective project execution.
• Assistance with instrumentation and equipment design and prototype development.
• Providing information to the sales department on technical queries.
• Maintaining and customising software dashboards for data presentation.
• Preparing CAD drawings of individual components and instrumentation assemblies.
• Product and Site monitoring.
• Liaising with suppliers and managing equipment selection, fabrication, suitability, quality, cost and delivery dates.
• Data processing and analysis.
