Our client is a recognised resource in the design and installation of data, voice and video solutions and they are looking for a Junior Network Technician to join their team and assist with maintaining and supporting our network infrastructure, with a specific focus on Wi-Fi networks.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
This role involves configuring and troubleshooting Wi-Fi access points, monitoring network performance, optimizing wireless connectivity, and providing technical support to end-users. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Wi-Fi technologies, network security, and be eager to develop their skills in a dynamic environment.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand and able to implement VLANs, IP addressing, Subnetting
- Knowledge of Mikrotik, H3C, Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus and other leading network equipment vendors products
- Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.)
- Provide support for network installations and upgrades, ensuring seamless connectivity and minimal downtime
- Monitor network performance to ensure optimal operation and resolve any connectivity issues
- Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software network problems, escalating more complex issues as needed
- Collaborate with senior technicians to manage and support network configurations, backups, and security protocols
- Perform routine network maintenance tasks, such as firmware updates and patch management
- Document network configurations and changes for internal tracking and future reference
- Provide technical support to end-users with network-related issues via phone, email, or in-person assistance
- Assist with network performance testing and optimization to improve efficiency and reliability
- Stay up to date with new network technologies and best practices to contribute to the team’s continuous improvement
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi access points to ensure optimal coverage and performance across the network
- Monitor Wi-Fi network performance, identify areas for improvement, and resolve connectivity or interference issues
- Assist in the design and implementation of Wi-Fi networks, ensuring proper coverage, security, and scalability
- Provide support for Wi-Fi-related issues, including connectivity drops, slow speeds, and device compatibility concerns
- Conduct Wi-Fi site surveys to assess coverage, signal strength, and interference, and make recommendations for improvements
- Manage Wi-Fi network security, including configuring WPA2/WPA3 encryption, guest networks, and access control policies
- Perform regular Wi-Fi network assessments and optimizations to ensure reliable and secure wireless communication
- Support wireless device onboarding and troubleshoot connectivity issues for devices such as laptops, phones, and IoT devices
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12
- Relevant IT / Networking tertiary qualification
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 2 – 3 Years’ experience in a similar role
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Some tasks require the ability to perceive and categorize colors or shades of colors, sounds and visual cues or signals
- Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally
- Requires overtime / work away from office at times
