Job description

Our client in the consulting engineering industry is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest in mechanical design and experience in Bulk Materials Handling (BMH) systems. This role is ideal for a technically inclined engineer looking to grow under the mentorship of experienced professionals while contributing to engineering and project delivery within mining and industrial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical engineering and design of BMH systems (conveyors, chutes, hoppers, crushers, etc.)
  • Develop mechanical datasheets, specifications, equipment lists, technical bid evaluations, and detailed calculations
  • Manage the BMH discipline scope within EPCM/EPC projects from concept through to commissioning
  • Interface with internal disciplines, clients, and contractors to ensure cohesive project execution
  • Review and approve vendor documents, shop drawings, and ensure engineering quality assurance
  • Prepare documentation for procurement, installation, and commissioning
  • Participate in and/or lead site activities including inspections, installations, FATs, and commissioning
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers and perform QA/QC reviews
  • Resolve BMH technical challenges during all project phases

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc / BEng / BTech in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA or actively pursuing registration
  • 5-7 years' experience in mechanical design, preferably with exposure to Bulk Materials Handling or related industrial systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems used in mining and industrial plants
  • Understanding of fabrication, installation, and commissioning processes
  • Familiarity with OHSA and relevant engineering codes and standards
  • Experience or exposure to conveyor design tools such as Sidewinder preferred
  • Basic knowledge or exposure to DEM simulation tools such as Rocky or Newton advantageous
  • Proficient in CAD software including AutoCAD 2D/3D, Inventor, and BIM 360 / Advanced Steel and be competent with MS Office Suite
  • Preferred certifications include Belt Conveying of Bulk Solids, Bulk Transfer Chute Design and Modelling Certification, and basic DEM modelling and commissioning training
