Qualifications

• Eng (Mechanical) degree required.

• Experience with plastic fabrication and sheet-metal processes.
• Ability to produce assemblies, BOMs and engineering changes.
• Interfacing with customers and creating requirement specs.
• Electrical knowledge and M2M/IOT experience advantageous.
• Based in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate and qualify products from concept to production.
• Conduct in-process reviews with R&D and investigate design faults.
• Run mechanical and thermal simulations to validate concepts.
• Test methods and qualification against standards.
• Produce manufacturing drawings and documentation packs.
• Improve current designs to reduce cost and enhance manufacturability.
• Provide production support, including assembly instructions and training.
• Liaise with local and Chinese suppliers for tooling and parts.

Job description

Poynting Antennas is seeking a Mechanical Engineer that will be in charge of the design, development, integration, and qualification of products and systems from concept stage to specification, qualification, integration, production support and Industrializing old products to improve costs.

• In-process reviews and design inputs with the R&D department
• Investigate and fault find current and new designs
• Mechanical and thermal simulations
• Test and qualify products against international standards:
• Design and develop test methods
• Draw up new product design and qualification specifications
• Provide design inputs to meet required specs
• Improve design on current products to reduce manufacturing costs
• Provide production support, e.g.: assembly, test instructions, and training
• Develop production and test equipment including manufacturing documentation packs for China and local Production to verify:
• New Product Tooling
• New and current products are made according to requirements.
• Liaise with Chinese and local suppliers

Research Responsibilities

• Research new product technologies, components, and solutions.

Product Development and Deployment

• Meet with Management and team to ascertain the following:
• Product Design
• Product and Document Configuration
• Product Budgets
• Assist Design Team with:
• Product Deployment / In-house Production / Implementation at third party Providers
• Manufacturing
• Field Support

Administration and Reporting

• General correspondence and administration completed accurately and timeously.
• Email, inbox, and data managed timeously and effectively.
• Professional image maintained in all communication.
• All reporting and feedback requirements met, and reports completed accurately and timeously, according to company requirements.
• Drafting, maintaining, and ensuring adherence to departmental processes and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

• Eng (Mechanical) - Required
• 2+ years' experience in the following:
• Conceptualization and problem solving of various design criteria
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Full Adobe Creative Cloud (Advantageous), and Microsoft Office (Compulsory)
• Proficiency with simulation software - mechanical and thermal
• Sketching, concept drawing, 3D presentation/rendering, technical drawing
• Design experience in plastic fabrication, other manufacturing processes such as sheet-metal, injection molding, extrusion, vacuum forming as well as printing
• Producing efficient designs within the framework of simplicity, feasibility, cost efficiency and accuracy
• Compiling assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings in accordance with acknowledged manufacturing standards
• Compiling Part Specifications, Bills of Materials, Engineering Changes, Configuration changes, Work Instructions and User Manuals
• Issuing revisions and updates to the manufacturing drawings and material lists
• Interfacing with customers, analysing and interpreting their requirements and producing requirement specifications (Advantageous)
• Providing technical support during manufacturing processes
• The following additional experience will be highly advantageous
• Basic Electrical / Electronic knowledge and experience
• Hands-on experience installing electronic / IT / M2M / IOT systems
• Candidate must be based in Johannesburg.
