A leading company in IT is seeking a Junior Linux System Administrator to provide first-line support for Linux systems at customer locations. This role involves daily system tasks, monitoring service requests, and ensuring compliance with security standards. Ideal candidates should have at least 2 years in ICT and one year in system administration, along with a foundational understanding of security protocols.
ROLE PURPOSE Responsible for first-line Linux system administration support at the customer site.
This includes daily system tasks, reporting, and first-line support for Linux systems within this environment.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS Junior level within a major function for a business unit.
No direct impact on business performance.
Junior role without leadership responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for support and implementation of OS within the enterprise (Production, Test, QA, Development).
Logging calls to 2nd-line support using Remedy and closing calls where applicable.
Security : patch management, vulnerability management, review, monitoring, and remediation in compliance with security standards.
Backup and Recovery (Dell Networker).
Monitor and resolve 1st line service requests.
Coordinate with departments such as Networks, Storage, Database, Security, Facilities, Backup and Recovery, IS, Test, and Development, as well as Change and Release Management, for day-to-day system administration following customer guidelines and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Grade 12 with Maths & Science (Preferred).
Tertiary education in ICT (Preferred).
Exposure to AWS Cloud (Advantageous).
Minimum of 2 years in ICT, with at least 1 year in system administration (Essential).
Experience in administering enterprise-scale systems.
Basic experience in hardware, system software, storage, and networking.
Basic shell scripting experience (Advantageous).
Backup and recovery experience.
Good understanding of Security & Compliance.
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS Basic knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering.
Ability to take ownership.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
Proven experience in system administration support.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
