Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of the Position:

Teaching, research, and community engagement in the field of Early Childhood Development and Education, specifically English Home Language Education.

Teaching
  • Teaching modules in ECDE English Home Language Education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in both distance and contact modes.
Research and Supervision
  • Conducting research and postgraduate supervision in ECDE English Home Language Education with appropriate publications.
  • Curriculum development, including creating study materials and guides for ECDE English Home Language Education modules across programs.
Administration
  • Managing assignments, assessments, marks, and resources.
Community Engagement
  • Participating in community service activities.
Work Integrated Learning
  • Facilitating WIL/Teaching activities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Honours degree (NQF level 8) in Education, specializing in ECDE English Home Language Education or related fields.
  • Masters degree (NQF level 9) in Education, specializing in ECDE English Home Language Education or related fields.
  • Professional teaching qualification (Foundation Phase Education or equivalent).
  • At least two years of teaching or relevant experience in a school setting, preferably in foundation phase.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • Registration with SACE.
  • Experience in lecturing, either full-time or part-time.
Technical and Behavioral Skills
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Innovative teaching skills and IT proficiency.
  • Ability to teach English Education to ECDE students aged 0-9.
  • Strong command of English and at least one other LoLT (preferably Afrikaans).
  • Good interpersonal skills, teamwork, time management, and ethical principles.
  • Engagement in community activities and resilience.
Remuneration

The total annual package will be aligned with the appointment level and NWU policies.
