Job description

A leading Waste Management company is seeking the services of a Junior IR officer for its Depot in Germiston.

POSITION INFO :
JOB PURPOSE :

To implement and maintain effective Industrial Relations for the Group.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Establish and maintain a win ratio with CCMA / NBCCRFI cases

Ensure that no preventable CCMA and Bargaining Council judgments are made against the Company.

Effective management of Union relationships

Ensure all policies and procedures abide by legislation and Interwaste’s ethical standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES RELATING TO KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
  1. Manage industrial Relations.
  2. Responsible for all Bargaining and Non bargaining council IR matters.
  3. Advice, Consult, Litigation and facilitate on IR Structures and procedures.
  4. Responsible for assisting with strike related matters and implement strike contingency plans as and when required.
  5. Manage the implementation, application and drafting of all disciplinary documents.
  6. Chairing and representing the Company in Disciplinary Inquiries as and when required.
  7. Handling and conducting of all grievance procedures, incapacity and poor work performance.
  8. Implement and maintain comprehensive IR administration, including submissions of weekly Industrial Relations reports and Monthly Reports.
  9. Attend to all applications (Lodging and opposing thereof), including but not limited to legal representation, jurisdictional issues, recessions applications, condonations etc. at the CCMA / NBCRFLI.
  10. Representation at the CCMA & Bargaining Council and must understand all processes as such.
  11. Conduct and develop Industrial Relation related Training.
  12. Present all CCMA matters 10 days prior to the set down date to General Managers, thereafter 7 days prior to the HR Director.
  13. Facilitate and maintain a good working relationship with unions and union officials.
  14. Understanding, Monitor, Review, suggest intervention to optimize collective agreement.
  15. Monitor internal labour trends, sick leave trends and submit relevant reports.
  16. Conduct all company retrenchments (Start to end).
  17. Compilation of bundles for matters.
  18. Conduct counselling and handle grievances and associated proceedings.
  19. Ensure compliance with Bargaining Council main agreements and all other relevant legislation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Extensive knowledge of the CCMA (Policies, Practices and Procedures)
  2. Extensive knowledge of Bargaining Councils, Employer Councils
  3. Knowledge of DOL, LRA, BCEA, EEA, SDA
  4. Knowledge of Disciplinary Procedures and sanctions
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
  • Diploma / Degree in Labour Relations, Labour law, Human / Industrial Relations
  • Must have at least 1-3 years experience in an IR environment representing companies at the CCMA
  • MS Office Suite - Good excel and word competency is an essential requirement
  • Maintaining discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Must have a valid Drivers licence and be willing to travel
