A leading BPO service provider in Cape Town is seeking a Health and Safety Officer responsible for enforcing safety policies and ensuring compliance with regulations. Ideal candidates will have Grade 12 or equivalent qualifications and certifications in health and safety, along with strong interpersonal and analytical skills. This role includes both office and on-site work, requiring a full health status check. Competitive salary offered.
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the Health and Safety Officer with implementing and enforcing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in the workplace. This person must provide a clearance in health status, as well as ability to carry heavy tools and heights.
Requirements
Qualifications and experience
1. Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
2. Certifications in relevant health and safety courses / studies advantageous.
3. Previous experience in Leading others advantageous
4. Takes the health and safety aspects of a working environment and employees very seriously
5. Previous experience / courses in health and safety – advantageous
6. Computer literate
7. Able to coach / train Health and Safety aspects
8. Support the appointment of competent Health and Safety / Fire – wardens / First Aid etc
9. Competent in ensuring that organization is within all legal requirements pertaining to Health and safety
Protect the company from any risk with ability to display forward thinking Ensure the purchase of all necessary equipment in line with statutory requirements.

Work Environment
The role may involve both office work and on-site, therefore a full health status check will be required as a inherent requirement of the job.
Key Performance Area’s
• Respond to Employee’s Health & Safety concerns
• Manage Hazards and Risks at the Company
• Have Volunteer Staff trained up for their core functions.
• Ensure the Company remains compliant, regarding Health & Safety issues.
• To work closely with the Occupational Health & Safety Officer, to ensure maximum safety of Staff at Boomerang.
Operational Objectives
• Knowledge and understanding of Inspections on the Premises
• To guide, train and recruit Volunteer Staff
• To understand the core functions of the Volunteer Staff
• To keep up to date with the latest Legislation regarding Health and Safety.
• To take the initiative to learn and understand matters relating to Occupational Health and Safety.
• To understand the operations of a quarterly Health & Safety meeting.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with external Suppliers and Organizations within the Health and Safety Environment.
• Have an updated Company Health & Safety Policy and Plan in place.
• To maintain contact with the Department of Labour, regarding correspondence & Inspections.
• Maintain a list of all OHS Due Dates, regarding appointments and equipment.
• Raise Management and Staff awareness of Safety accountabilities and responsibilities.
• Facilitate the investigation of Accidents / Injuries / COIDA , within the Company.
• Monitor Company access control and surveillance systems.
• Plan and co-ordinate emergency evacuation procedures.
• To keep all the Office signage relevant and up to date, on the Premises.
• To maintain a Risk Assessment for the Company.
• To manage the First Aid Operation, within the Company. This would include updating First Aid boxes, the training of Responders, and Ambulance / Doctor Procedures.
• To ensure that Company OHS Policies are adequate and in place.
• To ensure OHS Inspections are done Daily, and Monthly, to ensure Building safety.
• To continually train up OHS Staff, to improve their individual skills.
• To ensure that all Fire Fighting Equipment is operational and serviced timeously.
• To maintain copies of any Fire Incident Reports.
• To main an updated Company Fire Safety Plan.
