Job description

Our client, a leading financial institution, is looking to hire a Junior Equity Dealer to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about trading and financial markets, with the chance to grow and develop their career in an impactful role. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of trading processes in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Equity & Derivatives Trading (80%) :

Execute equity and derivatives trades, ensuring best execution by minimizing slippage and transaction costs.

Collaborate with Portfolio Managers to confirm trade instructions and ensure alignment with investment strategies.

Work with brokers to execute trade instructions and maintain awareness of market movements.

Trade international markets outside of South African hours, handling global trading operations.

Adhere to internal trading limits, risk management guidelines, and compliance protocols.

Trading Administration (20%) :

Coordinate with back-office and prime brokers to ensure timely trade settlement and smooth operational processes.

Send daily trade reports, update open orders, and manage Portfolio Manager instructions.

Maintain and update brokerage rates, portfolio SSIs, and ensure compliance with insider trading and PA trading policies.

Assist in evaluating portfolio performance using key metrics such as Sharpe ratio, VaR, and tracking error.

Support the creation of risk models to mitigate market, credit, and liquidity risks.

Contribute to performance reporting, attribution, and provide insights into portfolio returns relative to benchmarks.

Develop and maintain dashboards and visualization tools for internal stakeholders.

Explore and integrate new cloud computing and AI tools to enhance data analysis capabilities.

Automate data processing tasks to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.

Requirements : Education :

Relevant graduate and postgraduate qualifications.

JSE Equity Trader exams.

CFA Level 1 qualification is an advantage.

Registered Persons Exams.

Experience :

2-5 years of experience in institutional buy or sell-side trading, preferably in equities and derivatives.

Experience in trading administration is a plus.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to make quick, well-considered decisions.

Proficiency in Bloomberg and MS Excel; coding experience in VBA, R, or Python is a plus.

Strong ethics, professionalism, and awareness of fiduciary duties.

Knowledge of risk management, execution risks, and compliance regulations.

Ability to work well within a team, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
