Job summary

The President Hotel is seeking a motivated Junior Electrician to join its maintenance team in Cape Town. The role offers hands-on electrical experience within a large hotel environment, supporting qualified electricians and learning through practical tasks.

You will assist with installation, maintenance and repairs, follow safety procedures and develop skills in commercial wiring and CMMS usage. A developmental role with opportunities to grow your technical knowledge.

Qualifications

• NQF Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Trade.
• Electrical Trade Theory qualification, completed or in progress.
• 0–2 years’ experience in electrical/technical/maintenance support.
• Exposure to hotel, hospitality or building maintenance is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assist qualified electricians with installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems across the hotel.
• Prepare work areas, tools and materials for electrical tasks.
• Support the Senior Electrician with basic repairs, testing and fault-finding under supervision.
• Participate in routine preventative maintenance inspections of distribution boards and lighting systems.
• Check electrical panels, identify loose connections and replace lamps and fittings as needed.
• Report electrical faults or safety concerns to the supervising electrician.
• Learn to safely use electrical tools and testing equipment.
• Develop knowledge of commercial wiring, circuit breakers, relays and motor controls.
• Read and interpret basic wiring diagrams and technical information.
• Follow health, safety and electrical compliance procedures at all times.
• Wear PPE and keep tools and areas organized and safe.

As we continue our journey toward luxury, we’re looking for a motivated and technically minded Junior Electrician who is eager to gain hands‑on experience, develop their electrical knowledge and build a career within a professional hotel maintenance environment.

This is a developmental role supporting our experienced Maintenance team and qualified electricians. If you have the right technical foundation, take safety seriously, enjoy practical problem‑solving and are eager to learn, this opportunity is for you.

• NQF Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Trade, or currently enrolled in a recognised electrical apprenticeship or learnership programme
• Electrical Trade Theory qualification, either completed or currently in progress
• 0 to 2 years’ experience within an electrical, technical or maintenance support environment
• Previous exposure to hotel, hospitality, commercial property or building maintenance will be advantageous
• Basic understanding of electrical systems, wiring, lighting, plug circuits and distribution boards
• Basic ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and electrical layouts
• Willingness to learn commercial electrical systems, testing equipment, circuit breakers, relays and motor controls
• Strong awareness of electrical safety and the importance of following correct procedures
• Ability to follow instructions carefully and work under the supervision of qualified and experienced team members
• Practical, hands‑on approach with good problem‑solving ability
• Strong attention to detail and a responsible approach to tools, equipment and property
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Physically fit and comfortable working within a busy hotel maintenance environment
• Ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required
• Professional grooming, presentation and a disciplined approach to work
• South African citizen or holder of a valid South African work permit

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assisting qualified electricians with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, fixtures and wiring across the hotel
• Preparing work areas, tools and materials required for electrical maintenance and repair tasks
• Supporting the Senior Electrician with basic electrical repairs, testing and fault‑finding under appropriate supervision
• Participating in routine preventative maintenance inspections of distribution boards, lighting systems, plug circuits and other electrical installations
• Assisting with checking electrical panels, identifying loose connections and replacing lamps, fittings and basic components where appropriate
• Immediately reporting electrical faults, potential hazards and safety concerns to the supervising electrician
• Learning to safely use electrical tools, testing instruments and equipment
• Developing practical knowledge of commercial wiring, circuit breakers, relays, motor controls and electrical systems
• Learning to read and interpret basic wiring diagrams, layouts and technical information
• Following all health, safety and electrical compliance procedures at all times
• Wearing the required PPE and ensuring tools and equipment are used safely and correctly
• Never working on live electrical systems or high‑voltage equipment without the required training, authorisation and supervision
• Participating in toolbox talks, technical training and ongoing skills development
• Keeping tools clean, organised and correctly stored after use
• Maintaining clean, organised and safe work areas during and after maintenance activities
• Assisting with tool, equipment and material inventories
• Helping to complete job cards, logbooks and maintenance records accurately
• Learning to use the hotel’s CMMS system, including OMNI, to log, update and close maintenance tasks under supervision
• Progressively taking on additional responsibilities as your technical skills, knowledge and experience develop
