Placements24 is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer for our Upington, Northern Cape team. You will work under senior engineers on power distribution projects, assisting with design, analysis and documentation to support infrastructure development.

The role offers hybrid work and substantial mentorship to help you grow in power engineering. You will gain hands-on experience with load flow, fault analysis, schematics, and CAD drawings while contributing to site visits and project coordination.

Qualifications

• B.Eng or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering required.
• 0–3 years’ experience in electrical engineering, focusing on power systems or infrastructure.
• Strong academic record and keen interest in power engineering.
• Basic understanding of electrical power systems, distribution and transmission.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in the design and development of electrical distribution systems, substations, and associated infrastructure.
• Perform basic electrical calculations, including load flow analysis, voltage drop, and fault calculations.
• Prepare technical drawings and documentation, such as schematics, single-line diagrams, and layouts, using CAD software.
• Support the project management team with tasks related to project planning, scheduling, and resource coordination.
• Conduct site visits for data collection, progress monitoring, and inspection of electrical installations.
• Assist in the testing, commissioning, and handover of electrical projects.
• Research and stay updated on relevant electrical engineering standards, codes, and best practices (e.g., SANS).
• Participate in technical reviews and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
• Maintain project documentation and ensure adherence to quality standards.
• Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing electrical infrastructure.
• Liaise with stakeholders, including contractors and clients, under supervision.

Requirements

• B.Eng or B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 0-3 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on power systems or infrastructure projects.
• A strong academic record and a keen interest in power engineering.
• Basic understanding of electrical power systems, distribution, and transmission.
• Familiarity with electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) is an advantage.
