Any significant changes to the role will be communicated as needed.Department : MarketingLocation : Johannesburg, Centurion or Pretoria, South Africa (must have reliable transport)Reporting to : Creative Studio Lead | Managing DirectorStarting Date : Immediate (preferred)Role SummaryThe primary role of the Junior Designer is to support our creative studio in producing high-quality visual content to meet our agency's marketing and communication needs.
You will help define design requirements, visualize concepts, and create graphics (including illustrations, animations, videos, and more) based on project briefs.
Working under the guidance of senior creative staff, you will participate in design projects from concept to completion, producing draft designs and prototypes and then refining them based on feedback.
You will contribute to shaping the visual aspects of various materials, including digital content (websites, social media graphics, email campaigns) and print collateral (brochures, packaging, event displays), ensuring all outputs are on-brand and effective.
Additionally, you will collaborate with team members across departments (e.g., sales and marketing) to ensure that design deliverables align with marketing strategies and effectively engage our clients and target audiences.Key ResponsibilitiesGraphic Design & Production : Study design briefs and determine requirements.
Together with the Creative Studio Lead, conceptualize visuals based on goals, then create and refine graphics using appropriate software or by hand (e.g.
developing illustrations, logos, icons, layouts).
Ensure proper colour schemes, typography, and layouts are used for each project to maintain brand consistency and visual appeal.Drafting & Iteration : Prepare rough drafts or prototypes of designs and present ideas for review.
Incorporate feedback from clients and senior designers to adjust and improve designs promptly, ensuring the final output meets the project objectives and quality standards.Collaboration : Work closely with copywriters, the Creative Director, and other team members to produce final designs that effectively combine text and imagery.
Collaborate with the marketing team and other stakeholders to launch projects, ensuring design elements align with overall campaign messaging and strategy.Multi-Platform Design : Test graphics and layouts across various media (print and digital) to verify they display correctly and attractively on each platform.
Adapt designs as needed for multiple formats, including social media posts, website banners, email newsletters, print ads, and event materials.Marketing Support : Assist in the execution of marketing campaigns and initiatives throughout their lifespan.
Contribute creative ideas during brainstorming sessions for marketing strategies and promotional campaigns.
Support the marketing team by designing promotional materials for various channels, including PPC ads, social media content, SEO-oriented graphics, trade show booths, remarketing ads, webinars, and more, ensuring a cohesive look and feel.Research & Trends : Conduct basic research on industry trends and audience preferences to inform your design choices.
Stay up-to-date with current design trends and best practices to ensure our visuals remain fresh, innovative, and effective.Content & Copy : Assist with writing or proofreading creative copy, when necessary, to make sure that text and design work together harmoniously.
Ensure accuracy and consistency in all materials, double-checking that final graphics and layouts are error-free.Website & Analytics : Assist in maintaining website content by uploading or updating banners, images, and other graphics.
Understand the basics of web design and user experience principles.
Monitor how designs perform (for example, engagement on social media posts or click-through rates on digital ads) and gather insights to improve future designs continually.Internal Marketing : Contribute to internal marketing efforts and company culture initiatives by designing materials for internal communications, presentations, or events.
Ensure that even internal-facing visuals uphold the brand's standards and are appealing.Project Management : Assist in scheduling design tasks and managing your workload to meet project deadlines.
Prioritize multiple projects effectively and work within any defined budget or time constraints.
Adapt to changing priorities and last-minute feedback while maintaining attention to detail and quality in your work.RequirementsEducation : A matric (high school) certificate is required.
A post-matric qualification in graphic design, fine arts, or a related field (completed or in progress) is strongly preferred.Design Skills : Solid foundational knowledge of design principles across both print and digital mediums.
Ability to apply principles of layout, typography, and colour theory in practical projects.
A strong creative flair, combined with an eye for aesthetics and detail, is essential.Software Proficiency : Proficiency in industry-standard design software and tools, especially Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
Familiarity with other creative tools (e.g.
prototyping software, video editing or motion graphics tools) will be an advantage.Technical Knowledge : Basic understanding of web and multimedia design (experience with web design, UI / UX, or content management systems is a plus).
Knowledge of digital marketing concepts (social media platforms, online advertising formats, SEO basics) and how design supports them is beneficialmunication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to clearly articulate design ideas and actively listen to feedback—strong collaboration skills to work effectively within a team.Organizational Skills : Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Being able to take direction and work independently when needed while also knowing when to ask for guidance.Problem-Solving : Critical thinking and creative problem-solving ability.
Willingness to iterate and improve designs based on critiques.
Eagerness to learn new skills and adapt to new design challenges or tools.Attention to Detail : A keen eye for detail with a commitment to delivering polished, high-quality work.
Ensure all output is error-free (free from typos and with correct formatting) and on-brand.Transportation : Must have a reliable means of transportation to commute to our offices or attend off-site meetings and events as needed.
